What is a Reiki Session?
A Reiki session is approximately one hour in length. Clients are treated
fully clothed, sitting up or lying down, whichever is more comfortable. Heat,
cool or a tingling feeling, deep relaxation and a peaceful calm is often
reported by anyone receiving Reiki. Through a series of hand positions, slightly
on or above the body, practitioners are often able to sense energy discord and
can focus their attention to those areas. There is no manipulation of the skin
or muscle tissue.
Reiki is a non-invasive and supports all situations:
For Stress: Reiki can be used as a
therapeutic relaxation technique. Given on a regular basis, clients feel
energized and recharged. The grounding and centering effects of Reiki provide
enhanced clarity of thought, reduced distress and anxiety in stressful and
uncomfortable situations. Reiki is immensely valuable to promote deep relaxation
in individuals experiencing insomnia.
For Chronic Pain:
Chronic pain sufferers
are encouraged to consider learning Reiki Level 1, in order that they may
support themselves between visits to their medical doctor and Reiki
practitioners. Reiki is highly effective for individuals suffering with
fibromyalgia and arthritis.
For Illness: Reiki is useful before and
after surgery to accelerate healing, to reduce and relieve chronic or acute pain
and to support patients undergoing chemotherapy or in palliative care. When a
person is terminally ill, while it is extremely important that technology be
used to monitor and support the patient, it is touch that comforts the soul.
For Injury: Reiki can be given as spot
treatments after an individual has been injured. If you suspect that a bone has
been fractured or broken, seek medical attention before using Reiki directly on
the injury. The efficiency at which Reiki can heal bones is remarkable,
particularly in the early stages. If Reiki is used before appropriate setting of
the bone, it may heal improperly. After medical attention is received, Reiki can
then be used to accelerate the healing of the injury, through a cast or bandage.
In the case of burns: Reiki can heal is
remarkable particularly in the early stages. Reiki can be given without directly
touching the skin or bandage.
For Children: Reiki sessions for
children are generally much shorter in length, usually half the time of adult
sessions. Sessions can be given at a distance for toddler age children who find
it difficult to sit still for any length of time. Typically, children are great
receivers at any age and are happy to be still and receive the comforts of
Reiki, particularly if they are hurt or unwell. Reiki is especially effective in
the early stages of injuries, including burns and is a blessing for children
experiencing chronic or acute pain.
For Animals, Pets and Plants:
You can use Reiki to heal Animals, your pets and even use it on
your plants. Many Vets and Animals Hospitals are using Reiki today.
Reiki may be given daily, weekly or monthly. The number of sessions is unique to
each individual and the condition presented. Reiki is a safe, non-intrusive
practice that is always beneficial. Families who are interested in support for a
family member or for individuals who are ill or injured and in the hospital, can
request hospital visits . Occasionally after any form of complementary or
traditional therapy, an individual may experience a healing period, during which
they may be more emotional, require more rest, have increased urination, or
other symptoms unique to them. Clients are encouraged to use common sense if
these or any other symptom should occur. Contact your medical doctor or
naturopath if symptoms persist.
Clients must notify practitioners if they have been fitted with a pacemaker
or have metal pins in joints and should turn hearing aids down or off during a
Reiki session. Clients must also advise practitioners of any health conditions
they are experiencing or medications they are taking.
While all energy-based healing techniques can be key components in the
healing process, they are not a substitute for traditional medical care.
Individuals are advised to use an integrative approach to their health and
well-being, through education and advice from specialists in the fields of both
traditional and complementary medicine.
